like the Great Recession or the European crisis take us by surprise.
But 30 years of research have taught us that famines are political

that catastrophically affect food distribution.
And then there are the

So our task is to educate ourselves so that we can understand why we have these recurrent, intensifying financial crises, and how we can prevent them in the future.
